This website is my first ever serious project that I undertook, and I did it mainly to expand my knowledge of HTML and CSS, while also developing a basic understanding of JS. It is not very complex, but still offered lots of new knowledge and allowed me to gain experience in using these languages. I will come back and change things as I gain an even greater understanding of the involved languages, fixing mistakes or just imporoving elements of the site.

Having this website also gives me a location to display future projects as well as being able to act as a hub for my online presence.

Chess in C

As part of my course in university I had to learn C, so I decided to undertake a project that would help me improve my knowledge of the language. I enjoy playing chess in my free time and felt like this would challenge would be the perfect difficulty for my skill level as I already had minor prior experience in C.

It was difficult to implement some of the logic, especially special edge-cases. I was able to implement everything other than an automatic checkmate when the king has no move as that would take knowing what every piece sees at all times and would be tough to do. The code itself can be optimised, however since this was my first time actually implementing C into a project, I was ok with it not being perfect.

It can be downloaded here and is fully playable inside of a terminal once you properly compile and execute it.

File Organiser

I wanted to do a python project that would actually be of use to me, and would not force me to learn modules that I would never use again, so I decided ot do one with the os and shutil modules.

Unlike the previous projects I had done, I knew that the code for this one would be much shorter so I decided to refrain from using tutorials as they would give me the code and not actually teach me anything, and instead I consulted the official documentation, a practice that I needed to learn for the future.

Overall, this project did not present any major difficulties and can be downloaded here. It is personalised towards the downloads folder as that is where I always struggle to find things. There are a few other customisation preferences that can be changed in the code if needed.

Experience

Nandos

This is my current workplace. I work in the back of house in different areas preparing food. I have been promoted to 'Buddy' which puts me in charge of my position at work and also in charge of training new staff for said position. I have developed a lot of team work experience here as that is a key part of working in a kitchen.

Tesco

I spent a short stint working at Tesco as part of my work experience. Here I was able to earn valuable experience in customer service work. I worked as part of a team and completed a plethora of tasks. I also discovered my ability to adapt to new workplaces and my desire to work in teams with other people as it added to the enjoyment of working.

CMG Professional Catering

My time here was much different from my time at the other places where I previously worked as it is a local company that operates on a much lower scale, and is also concerned with different types of work. Here, working in a kitchen with others in a busy environment, I was really able to learn what it means to work as part of a team, and many of the challenges that come with that, which in turn gave me very valuable insight that is hard to gain otherwise.
